Joe Grushecky hat mit Bruce Springsteen im Frühjahr 2017 den Protestsong "That’s What Makes Us Great" aufgenommen. Die wütende Rockhymne wurde am 19. April 2017 um 10:00 Uhr (Eastern Standard Time) auf Joe Grusheckys Homepage veröffentlicht und auf SiriusXM Radio erstmals gespielt.
 
Der aus Pittsburgh, PA stammende Künstler releaste 1979 sein Debütalbum "Love’s So Tough" und wurde von den Kritikern mit viel Lob überschüttet. Bruce Springsteen traf den Künstler Anfang der 1980er Jahre und spielte am 17. Juli 1982 das erste Konzert mit Joe Grushecky in Clarence Clemons Nightclub "Big Man’s West" in Red Bank, NJ. Seit dieser Zeit verbindet die beiden Musiker eine langjährige Freundschaft. Im Jahre 1995 trat Bruce Springsteen nicht nur als Co-Autor beim Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers Album "American Babylon", sondern auch als Produzent in Erscheinung. 2006 war Bruce Springsteens Gesang und Gitarrenspiel auf dem Grushecky Album "A Good Life" zu hören.
