Bruce Springsteen veröffentlichte am 10. Januar 2014 (14. Januar 2014 - USA) sein 18. Studioalbum unter dem Titel "High Hopes". Neben einer Audio CD und Vinyl LP wurde auch eine "Limited Edition" mit einer DVD angeboten. Auf dem Datenträger findet man die "Born in the USA Full Album Show" vom 30. Juli 2013 (Hard Rock Calling Festival, London).

Bruce Springsteen HIGH HOPES

Bruce Springsteen will release a new album, titled High Hopes, on January 14th. The album is available for pre-order now at smarturl.it/highhopes, and the music video for the title track can be seen now at brucespringsteen.net.
 
High Hopes finds Bruce in a number of different musical settings, and includes the members of the E Street Band as well as guitarist Tom Morello and many additional players. Recorded in New Jersey, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Australia and New York City, High Hopes marks Bruce’s 18th studio album and includes his own liner notes that detail the album’s evolution, viewable now at brucespringsteen.net.
Morello joined Bruce and the E Street Band on tour in Australia in March 2013 (sitting in for Steve Van Zandt), and became, as Bruce says, "my muse, pushing the rest of this project to another level." Besides his guitar playing on the album, Morello also duets with Bruce on "The Ghost of Tom Joad." Clarence Clemons, who passed away in 2011, and Danny Federici, who passed away in 2008, also appear on several songs of what Springsteen calls "some of our best unreleased material from the past decade."
 
To celebrate the album’s announcement, director Thom Zimny built a collage featuring photos from Danny Clinch, Australian tour footage featuring Tom Morello shot by Chris Hilson, and vintage documentary footage set to the title song. Click here to watch the video now.

Neues Album "High Hopes" erscheint am 10. Januar

Am 10. Januar erscheint mit "High Hopes" das 18. Studioalbum von Bruce Springsteen. Es ist der Follow-Up zu "Wrecking Ball", das im März 2012 Platz eins der deutschen, britischen und US-amerikanischen Charts erreichte. Die Aufnahmen zu "High Hopes" fanden in New Jersey, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Australien und New York City in verschiedenen Konstellationen statt. So arbeitete Springsteen u.a. mit Mitgliedern der E Street Band, Gitarrist Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave u.a.), sowie zahlreichen weiteren Musikern. Produziert wurden die zwölf Stücke von Brendan O'Brien, Ron Aniello (Co-Produzent bei einigen Songs) und Bruce Springsteen.
 
Morello stiess im März 2013 anlässlich Spingsteens Australientour zur E Street Band (er übernahm den Part von Steve Van Zandt) und wurde, laut Springsteen, "meine Muse, er gab dem gesamten Projekt den Push auf das nächste Level". Morello ist nicht nur als Gitarrist auf "High Hopes" zu hören, sondern beim Song "The Ghost Of Tom Joad" auch als Springsteens Duett-Partner. Die 2008 bzw. 2011 verstorbenen Mitglieder der E Street Band, Danny Federici und Clarence Clemons, sind ebenfalls auf einigen Songs vertreten, die Springsteen als "mit das beste unveröffentlichte Material des vergangenen Jahrzehnts" bezeichnet.

Bruce Springsteens Liner Notes zum neuen Album:

 
I was working on a record of some of our best unreleased material from the past decade when Tom Morello (sitting in for Steve during the Australian leg of our tour) suggested we ought to add “High Hopes” to our live set.

I had cut “High Hopes,” a song by Tim Scott McConnell of the LA based Havalinas, in the ’90s. We worked it up in our Aussie rehearsals …and Tom then proceeded to burn the house down with it.

We re-cut it mid tour at Studios 301 in Sydney along with “Just Like Fire Would,” a song from one of my favorite early Australian punk bands, The Saints (check out “I’m Stranded”). Tom and his guitar became my muse, pushing the rest of this project to another level. Thanks for the inspiration Tom.
Some of these songs, “American Skin” and “Ghost of Tom Joad,” you’ll be familiar with from our live versions. I felt they were among the best of my writing and deserved a proper studio recording.

“The Wall” is something I’d played on stage a few times and remains very close to my heart. The title and idea were Joe Grushecky’s, then the song appeared after Patti and I made a visit to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington. It was inspired by my memories of Walter Cichon.

Walter was one of the great early Jersey Shore rockers, who along with his brother Ray (one of my early guitar mentors) led the “Motifs”.

The Motifs were a local rock band who were always a head above everybody else. Raw, sexy and rebellious, they were the heroes you aspired to be. But these were heroes you could touch, speak to, and go to with your musical inquiries. Cool, but always accessible, they were an inspiration to me, and many young working musicians in 1960′s central New Jersey.

Though my character in “The Wall” is a Marine, Walter was actually in the Army, A Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry. He was the first person I ever stood in the presence of who was filled with the mystique of the true rock star.

Walter went missing in action in Vietnam in March 1968. He still performs somewhat regularly in my mind, the way he stood, dressed, held the tambourine, the casual cool, the freeness.

The man who by his attitude, his walk said “you can defy all this, all of what’s here, all of what you’ve been taught, taught to fear, to love and you’ll still be alright.”

His was a terrible loss to us, his loved ones and the local music scene. I still miss him.

This is music I always felt needed to be released !!!

From the gangsters of “Harry’s Place,” the ill-prepared roomies on “Frankie Fell In Love” (shades of Steve and I bumming together in our Asbury Park apartment) the travelers in the wasteland of “Hunter Of Invisible Game,” to the soldier and his visiting friend in “The Wall“, I felt they all deserved a home and a hearing.

  

"High Hopes" - Charterfolge:

 

 

Am 25. November 2013 wurde "High Hopes" als Single ausgekoppelt. Dazu wurde ein Musikvideo auf Bruce Springsteens offizieller Homepage bereitgestellt. "High Hopes" erreichte in Spanien Platz 33 in den PROMUSICAE Charts.
 
Das Album erreichte kurz nach der Veröffentlichung am 10. bzw. 14. Januar 2014 insgesamt zehn Nummer 1 Chartplatzierungen: Vereinigte Staaten, Grossbritannien, Deutschland, Schweiz, Schweden, Finnland, Irland, Niederlande, Kanada und Spanien.
In Österreich, Belgien, Frankreich wurde "High Hopes" auf Platz 2 der offiziellen Albumcharts gelistet.
 
Das Album wurde in Australien, Österreich, Italien, Neuseeland, Spanien, Schweden und der Schweiz mit goldenen Schallplatten ausgezeichnet.

  

Die Songs:

 

"High Hopes" wurde von Tim Scott McConnell im Jahre 1987 komponiert und im selben Jahr von seiner Band "Havalina" als Single veröffentlicht. Bruce Springsteen spielte den Song im Januar 1995 ein und releaste ihn im Vorfeld der "Blood Brothers Video" Veröffentlichung auf der 5 Tracks umfassenden "Blood Brothers" EP. Am 25. November 2013 wurde die Albumversion vorab als Download-Single veröffentlicht. Leadgitarre spielt Tom Morello.
   
"Harry’s Place" wurde 2001 / 2002 für "The Rising" komponiert und eingespielt. Ausführender Produzent war Brendan O’Brien. Auf der "High Hopes" Albumversion ist Clarence Clemons Saxophonspiel zu hören.
  
"American Skin (41 Shots)"
Bruce Springsteens Song "American Skin (41 Shots)" aus dem Jahre 2000 wurde durch die Ermordung des aus Liberia stammenden Amadou Diallo inspiriert. Leadgitarre spielt Tom Morello.

 

Am Morgen des 4. Februar 1999 stand Diallo vor seinem Haus in der Wheeler Avenue in New York City und machte sich auf, in die Innenstadt zu fahren, um Videokassetten an Passanten zu verkaufen. Er geriet ins Visier einiger Zivilfahnder, die ihn mit einem Serienvergewaltiger verwechselten. Als Diallo in seine Jacke fasste, eröffneten die Polizisten das Feuer und streckten den 24jährigen mit 41 Schüssen nieder. Der Vorfall löste in den Vereinigten Staaten eine heftige Diskussion über das grobe Vorgehen der Polizei aus und gipfelte in gewalttätigen Demonstrationen. Letztendlich wurden die Polizeibeamten in einer Neuverhandlung vor einem Gericht in Albany, NY freigesprochen.

 

"Just Like Fire Would" wurde 1986 auf dem siebten Studioalbum der australischen Rockband "The Saints" releast. Bruce Springsteen eröffnete das Konzert in Brisbane (Australien, 14. März 2013) mit besagtem Song. Leadgitarre spielt Tom Morello.

"Down in the Hole" stammt aus der "Rising" Zeit. 2002 wurde der Song in den "Southern Tracks Studios" in Atlanta eingespielt. Schlussendlich wurde "Down in the Hole" nicht auf "The Rising" veröffentlicht. Neben Clarence Clemons wirkte auch Danny Federici an diesem Song mit. Als Background Sänger fungieren Bruce Springsteens Kinder Evan, Jessica und Sam.

"Heaven's Wall" wurde 2002 komponiert und bis zum Jahre 2008 mehrmals mit diversen E Street Band Musikern aufgenommen. Erst während der Wrecking Ball Tour 2013 entschloss sich Springsteen, alte Aufnahmen an Produzent Ron Aniello weiterzuleiten und den Song auf "High Hopes" zu veröffentlichen. Leadgitarre spielt Tom Morello.

"Frankie Fell in Love" und "This Is Your Sword" wurden im Jahre 2013 erstmals aufgenommen und zählen zu den "neueren" Songs auf dem "High Hopes" Studioalbum. Sam Bardfeld (Mitglied von Bruce Springsteens Seeger Session Band) spielt Geige. Produziert wurden beide Songs von Ron Aniello und Bruce Springsteen.

"Hunter of Invisible Game" stammt wie "Heaven's Wall" aus dem Jahre 2002. Der Song wurde mehrmals während diverser Studiosession geprobt und aufgenommen. Bisher wurde "Hunter of Invisible Game" nicht veröffentlicht. Leadgitarre spielt Tom Morello.
  
"Ghost of Tom Joad" ist der Titeltrack des gleichnamigen Bruce Springsteen Solo Albums aus dem Jahre 1995. Die neue Version wurde im Februar bzw. März 2013 mit Tom Morello in Australien neu eingespielt.
 
"The Wall" ist eine Gemeinschaftsproduktion mit Joe Grushecky. Der Song stammt aus dem Jahre 1997 und wurde von Joe Grushecky auf "Fingerprints" im Jahre 2002 veröffentlich.
Das E Street Band Gründungsmitglied Danny Federici spielte kurz vor seinem Tod diesen Song bei einer Studiosession mit Bruce Springsteen ein. Auf der Albumversion ist Danny Federicis Orgelspiel zu hören. "The Wall" ist dem New Jersey Musiker Walter Cichon gewidmet, der während des Vietnamkriegs ums Leben kam. 

Walter Cichon gründete in den 1960er Jahren die Band "The Motifs" und spielte unzählige Konzerte in den lokalen Clubs in Asbury Park und Ocean Grove. Im März 1968 wurde Walter Cichon während eines Einsatzes in Vietnam getötet.
 
"Dream Baby Dream" wurde ursprünglich von Alan Vega und Martin Rev (Suicide) in den späten 1970er Jahren komponiert. Der Song wurde 1979 als Single released. Bruce Springsteen spielte ihn während der "Devils & Dust Tour 2005″ mehrmals. Darüber hinaus wurde am 11. Oktober 2013 ein "Dream Baby Dream" Video auf Bruce Springsteens Homepage veröffentlicht. Leadgitarre spielt Tom Morello.
   
"Cold Spot", "Mary Mary", "Hey Blue Eyes" und "American Beauty" wurden laut Produzent Ron Aniello für "High Hopes" aufgenommen und abgemischt. Das Produktionsteam entschloss sich, die beiden Songs nicht auf dem Album zu veröffentlichen.
  

"Hunter of Invisible Game" - Kurzfilm:

Auf Bruce Springsteens Homepage wurde am 18. Juni 2014 ein Foto mit dem Hinweis "Coming Soon" veröffentlicht.
Am 30. Juni 2014 wurde bekannt, dass Bruce Springsteen gemeinsam mit Regisseur Thom Zimny den Kurzfilm "Hunter of Invisible Game" produziert hat. Besagtes Video wurde am 9. Juli 2014 auf http://brucespringsteen.net/ gestreamt.
